Meet Patrick Hinds and Steve Tipton

Patrick Hinds, co-creator and co-host of the hit true crime/comedy podcast True Crime Obsessed (TCO), has long been a powerful voice in both podcasting and advocacy. Along with his TCO co-host, Gillian Pensavalle, Patrick brings humor, heart, and insight to discussions of true crime documentaries. The podcast has garnered over 200 million downloads since its inception in 2017 and made history in 2022 as the first podcast to perform live on Broadway. Patrick is also the co-host of The Golden Girls Deep Dive Podcast, alongside two-time Tony nominee Jennifer Simard, where they unpack episodes of the beloved TV show with wit and trivia.

Steve Tipton, Patrick’s husband and biggest supporter, works behind the scenes as the Business Manager for True Crime Obsessed and the Golden Girls Deep Dive Podcast. As a couple, they’ve found common ground in their commitment to advocacy and philanthropy. Sharing a deep commitment to progressive causes, Patrick and Steve aligned their personal and professional values to give back to the LGBTQ+ community and other social justice initiatives.

Building a Legacy of Advocacy and Community

For well over a decade, Patrick and Steve have been immersed in the fabric of New York City, using their platform and resources to support causes that reflect their deep commitment to inclusivity, equality, and social justice. Through the Hinds-Tipton Charitable Foundation, they contribute to initiatives that not only align with their values but also make a meaningful impact on their local community. They actively fund the Making Gay History podcast, ensuring that vital LGBTQ+ stories continue to be shared with a broad audience. Patrick's role on the board of A is For underscores their advocacy for reproductive rights, and together, they help produce the annual Broadway Acts for Abortion fundraiser, which raised over $250,000 in 2023 with the support of major Broadway stars.

Their sponsorship of the Broadway Backwards Gala through True Crime Obsessed is another testament to their dedication to the arts and the LGBTQ+ community, reimagining musical theater to celebrate diverse stories. Patrick and Steve’s involvement extends far beyond these events, as they consistently support local organizations like Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS, The LGBTQ+ Center, and other progressive causes such as End the Backlog, Color of Change, and The Humane Society.

Deeply invested in their community, Patrick and Steve’s long-term vision includes reopening the historic Oscar Wilde Bookstore in New York City, an iconic space that once served as a haven for the LGBTQ+ community. Through their work, philanthropy, and civic engagement, they are committed to fostering a more inclusive, compassionate future for New York City and beyond.

Patrick, Steve, and their daughter, Daisy, continue to live in New York City, where they remain visible and active members of the community, working to create lasting change both locally and globally.
